Kindergarten curriculum
The kindergarten curriculum in our school is in accordance with the National Curriculum of the French education ministry.
Kindergarten: the cycle of early learning.
Kindergarten years have been categorised by the French education ministry as paramount to ensure the success of each and every student. Although not mandatory, kindergarten is the first step to establishing an educational basis that instills the foundational virtues of openness, sharing, and learning upon which our school proudly rests. The main goal of our kindergarten school is to impart to our students the joy of learning and an environment to let their personality blossom.
Our kindergarten:
• is adapted to young students
• organises specific learning modalities
• creates an environment for students to learn and thrive together.
The curriculum is divided into five specific learning fields:
• Using languages in every dimension
• Acting, expressing, and understanding through physical activities
• Acting, expressing, and understanding through the arts
• Building the first tools to structuring thoughts
• Exploring the world and all of its facets
Admission of “two year olds” will only be allowed after concerting with parents about the child’s maturity, autonomy, and cleanliness. Also, only if seats are still available. To enroll your child in our Pre-K (TPS) section, a child must be at least 2 years old on September 1st of that school year.
Language mastery and polyvalence is our main objective in our learning.
Therefore, English and Mandarin Chinese are taught throughout all kindergarten years by qualified teaching staff. Our children are thereby exposed to multiple languages including French as well as different cultures from the start of their educational path.
Primary school curriculum
Primary school welcomes children from 6 to 11 years old. There are five levels: CP (year 1), CE1 (year 2), CE2 (year 3), CM1 (year 4), CM2 (year 5).
Teaching practices are divided into different distinct cycles of three years each:
Cycle 2, known as the fundamental learning cycle, incorporates the three first years of primary school (CP, CE1, and CE2).
Cycle 3, known as the consolidation cycle, incorporates CM1 and CM2 in primary school. This cycle continues in its third year with the first year of middle school, year 6 (sixième).
Primary school teachings
Mastering the French language as well as the first steps in Mathematics are the main objectives in primary school to allow pupils to acquire fundamental tools of learning.
Starting from CP, pupils also discover an additional language (foreign or regional). In cycle 2, the curriculum incorporates questionings about the surrounding world, artistic teachings (art and music), physical education, as well as moral and civic teachings.
In cycle 3, pupils consolidate their learnings in these domains and discover science and technology, history and geography, and art history.
Our school takes into account the plurality and diversity of each pupil’s aptitudes. Besides intellectual and critical thinking, observation skills, a yearning for learning, sensibility, motor skills, and creative imagination are also developed.
Parents information
Following the schooling of your child requires being informed about the school curriculum. In this endeavour, the French Ministry for Education has published a plethora of guides allowing to read up on school curriculums. These curriculums
Secondary school curriculum
Secondary school is comprised of middle school (year 6 to year 9) and high school (year 10 to year 12). Our school offers schooling for every year in middle school. High school classes are opened depending on the number of students.
Secondary school students follow the official government curriculum from the French Education Ministry. There are two official exams. The Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) at the end of middle school and the Baccalauréat at the end of high school.
The French curriculum is divided into cycles of three years each. Cycle 3 incorporates the last two years of primary and the first year of middle school (year 6). Year 6 is a crucial stepping stone for students. It allows them to adapt to the accelerated middle school rythm and its more demanding organizational education practices whilst continuing the primary learning curve.
Years 7 through 9 constitute cycle 4 of learning. During these years, students deepen and expand their knowledge. English, Mandarin, German, Spanish, and Latin are also reinforced.
Educational organization at EFIC
Students from year 6 to year 8 are taught in a regular class setting. Starting from year 9, the students are enrolled in the CNED system (Centre National pour l’Enseignement à Distance).
The CNED system is a French governmental program that delivers high end educational courses and delivers their own testing system. Our teachers teach the CNED system to our students throughout the year as well as adding their own program to the class.
Every subject in the CNED system is taught by one of our accredited teachers.
Our small classes allow each student to receive a personalised touch as well as a hands-on experience throughout their secondary school years.
The end of middle school is evaluated through eight different subjects :
- Oral and written French language
- Maths, sciences, and computer languages
- World representation and human activity
- Foreign and regional languages
- Natural and technical systems
- Art and body languages
- Formation de la personne et du citoyen
- Learning methods and tools
